Cookery classes for men
MEN are picking up culinary skills at a new cookery course at Backwell School.
The school is putting on basic cookery classes for older men who are widowed or full time carers.
Cookery tutor Sandra Law has been running the course after school hours and three year 10 food students also help out.
Kathy Patterson, community, arts and extended services manager for Backwell School, said: “Not only are the group learning valuable shopping and cooking skills but it also gives them an opportunity to socialise with others of the same age and chat to the students, whose help they greatly appreciate.”
The men have made a range of dishes from soups and casseroles to curries, cakes and puddings. Anyone interested in joining a course in the new year can call Jane Lewthwaite on 07759 469809.
