Youngsters make film on dangers of drugs
YOUNGSTERS from Nailsea have made a short film about the harmful effects of recreational drugs.
The 16-19 year-olds from Nailsea Youth House worked with Curzon Community Cinema to make the film with funding from Find Your Talent.
The film fans worked with a professional film director for six weeks and were also able to use highly specialised equipment for film-making.
After completing their project, the group was invited to attend the Curzon for a formal screening.
North Somerset Council youth worker, Grace Chadwick-Ryan, said: “We are very proud of the achievements of our young people - not only have they had the opportunity to gain new skills in film-making, they have also produced a useful resource which can be watched by other young people to see the harmful effects of drugs.”
The film was also entered into the Fresh Flix 2010 competition and made it into the top 24 films from across Europe.
As a result, the film was screened in Electric December - Bristol Watershed’s annual countdown calendar celebrating the best short films from young people across Europe.
The film can be viewed by visiting www.electricdecember.org/10/home and selecting film number 12, Strange Faces in New Places.
