A NORTH Somerset school has reached the finals of the prestigious Times Education Supplement Schools Awards.
Hundreds of schools entered the overall competition and St Katherine’s School in Pill has been put through to the final six for the Healthy Eating category.
In July, representatives of the school will attend a presentation dinner in London, where they will find out if St Katherine’s has won the award.
The school’s achievements for healthy eating and outstanding catering have already been acknowledged by becoming the first secondary school in the country to become a Gold Flagship School and Community, for the Soil Association’s Food for Life Partnership programme.
In December, a new 2.8million hospitality and catering facility was also opened, including a restaurant called The Leaf at Ham Green, which will be officially opened by Kevin McCloud from the TV programme Grand Designs in June.
Headteacher Stephanie Quayle explained the competition criteria for the Times award. She said: “This award is aimed at rewarding the school that is delivering the healthiest school meals.
“We had to explain in detail about our menus and what makes them distinctive, attractive, and healthy to the students.”
