An award-winning education charity held an event in North Somerset to help schools learn how best to challenge issues such as homophobia.
Educational Action Challenging Homophobia (EACH) lined up various speakers at Gordano School in Portishead to talk to staff and pupils from across the South of England about how these sorts of issues should be tackled, if ever encountered in the classroom.
EACH offers lesson plans for primary and secondary schools so teachers can best convey to pupils how to respect one another.
Its executive director Jonathan Charlesworth said: “We all have the power to do something to challenge prejudice based harassment and I trust our resource will inspire every school to better understand what is homophobic, bi-phobic or trans-phobic bullying.
“In turn, this will increase their capacity both to challenge it and create safe spaces for disclosures when support is required.”
