Gordano School students are celebrating a ‘brilliant’ year of A-level results today (Thursday).
Dozens of year 13 students anxiously opened their envelopes to discover if they had made it to their chosen university or apprenticeship.
But the nerves soon turned to joy as a record number of pupils achieved grades of A* or A while the overall A*-C rate remains at 82 per cent – the same as 2017.
The school’s overall pass rate stands at 98 per cent.
Top performers included Eve Pope who secured four A*s and is heading to study natural sciences at the University of Cambridge, while Amy Jackson will study earth sciences at the University of Oxford after achieving three A*’s.
Some students are progressing their careers on medical or veterinary courses and Jess King will take on a naval scholarship at the University of Southampton.
Headteacher Tom Inman said: “I am absolutely thrilled for our students that their immense hard work has paid off to produce another brilliant year of results.
“Their unparalleled success is testament to the way that the students have worked so hard and supported each other so well as a year group through the challenges of the new courses.
“Huge congratulations to all concerned and we wish them every continued success in their futures.
“There will be champagne corks popping this evening.”
