Past and present staff and governors were invited into a Nailsea school to plant trees to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
St Francis Primary School, in Station Road, is celebrating its 40th birthday in 2019-20.
The tree planting ceremony is one of a number of celebrations being held by the school to celebrate the landmark event.
The Woodland Trust donated the trees and Jon – a representative from the charity – visited the school to show the chidlren how to plant and care for the trees.
A spokesman for the school said: “The trees will extend our forest school area, provide a wildlife haven and help drain a boggy area of our school field.
“The most fascinating fact of the day supplied by Jon was that scientists have discovered that trees ‘hold hands’ underground by fusing their roots and helping each other out when there is a shortage of food or water.”
Children helped to plant the trees in the school grounds.
