Cyclists to ride 200 miles in one day in aid of hospice

Two friends are preparing to cycle 200 miles in 24 hours to raise money for Weston Hospicecare.
Steve Cremer and Jon Bass will climb into the saddle to pedal from the hospice in Uphill to Land's End on June 14.
For Steve, it will not be the first time he has completed this journey - although it will be a very different, and far more challenging, trip this time around. That is because he was part of a group which took on the same trip for the hospice 11 years ago. On that occasion, the group took three days to cover the distance; this time, he plans to do it in just 24 hours.
The 43-year-old said: "In 2007 I lost my Mum at the age of 53 to cancer and in the same year a friend, Ben Whitwell, lost his Dad Mike at the age of 59 to cancer.
"Both Mike and my Mum were cared for by Weston Hospicecare; they not only made the last weeks and days of Mum and Mike's lives comfortable, they provided our families with much more in the way of advice and support in the aftermath of our respective losses.
"In 2008, Ben organised a bike ride from his house in Hutton to Land's End; the ride was done over three days, and I was infamously quoted as stating on day one that I thought we could do it in a single day.
"So fast-forward to September 2018, and after a good few beers in London, we decided that we should give this a go in 2019."
The pair will be joined by an experienced support team to ensure they remain safe and on track, as well as providing mechanical support should their bikes hit difficulties.
Steve, who grew up in Weston and now lives in Long Ashton, says the final preparation is now coming together, but urged friends and family to reward the bikers' efforts with a donation to the hospice.
He added: "The final route is still in the planning stage, but we estimate the distance will be somewhere around 200 miles.
"A seasoned professional from the sport of cycling might consider this to be very much achievable… however, please understand this is a massive challenge for both Jon and I.
"Please be as generous as you can for this great hospice."
The duo are hoping to raise £2,000 for Weston Hospicecare by completing the ride.
