AN OFF-DUTY fire fighter helped rescue two children in a dramatic incident in Portishead last night (Fri).
Just after 8pm the fire service was called out to reports of one youngster stuck in the mud up to his waist and another who had freed himself.
Retained firefighter Dave Hodges, who works part-time out of the Portishead station, was walking his dog and saw the children were in trouble and rushed to help the coastguard that was on the scene.
The rescue took about 30 minutes and the children were taken by ambulance to hospital. Their injuries were not serious.
