More than 30 affordable homes will go on to the North Somerset property market after a housing association completed two deals to expand into the area.

Merlin has bought 32 new homes in the area, including 21 being built by Taylor Wimpey at Paper Mill Gardens in Portishead, and 11 at Persimmon’s Haywood Village, near Weston.

Merlin development manager James Mcloughlin said: “We know there’s a huge need for affordable homes locally. We’re delighted to have completed the contracts, and we’ll be continuing to look for more development opportunities to help meet this demand.”

North Somerset Council’s deputy leader Elfan Ap Rees, said: “These new homes will make an important contribution to meeting local need for affordable housing.

“It’s vital first-time buyers and young families and are able to find quality, affordable housing close to local schools and where they work.”
