Dog-lovers dived into the water at Portishead marina on Saturday and were rescued by some gentle giants.

The Newfoundland dogs were impressive to watch as they jumped into the harbour to pull people to safety.

The rescue event was put on by The Newfound Friends to raise money for Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary in Barrow Gurney.

The centre, in Wild Country Lane, takes in dogs and cats and is trying to raise £650,000 to pay for a new space for the dogs and five extra kennels so they can take in more animals.

Staff find new homes for 750 animals each year.
