Long delays on M5 as accident closes one lane

Traffic is beginning to build on the M5 due to a broken down vehicle.


Drivers are facing delays of up to 40 minutes on the motorway in Somerset today (Monday) as an accident has closed one lane of the M5.

An accident between Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon is causing long delays today (Monday).

Highways England expects traffic to return to normal at around 2pm, but queues stretch back as far as Bridgwater.

There is also slow traffic on the southbound carriageway.

There is slow-moving traffic between due to high volumes of cars on the road.

Drivers heading south are facing delays of around 10 to 20 minutes between junction 20 (Clevedon) and junction 21 (Weston).

UPDATE: 12.48pm: Accident cleared

All lanes of the M5 northbound between Weston and Clevedon are now open, but queues are still stretching back to Burnham-on-Sea.

There has also been a serious accident on the A38 today, near Bristol Airport. The A38 has been closed in both directions and the air ambulance has been called.
