Nailsea Town Council meets at the Tithe Barn

A new councillor has been elected to represent Nailsea Town Council’s Youngwood Ward.

Dee Houlbrook, of Birdcombe Close, has lived in the town for 20 years.

She has taken over as town councillor for the ward after Anita Heappey stepped down from the post earlier this year.

Dee, who is an independent councillor, said: “Local government is a bit like jury service – nobody wants to do it but it’s really important.

“I wanted to do this to give something back to the community.

“My plan is to watch and listen for quite a while before I decide what my opinions are.”

Dee, who works as a cleaner, has four children aged from 14 to 31.

She said: “Now they are older, it’s a good time for me to branch out and do something a bit different.”

Dee has taken up the role after being co-opted on to the council.
