Dad takes on charity cycle

A DOTING dad will be hopping on the saddle next month to cycle more than 900 miles for charity.

Andrew Moore, aged 42, from Nailsea, and his old school friend Paul Malone, aged 44, are hoping to cycle from John O’ Groats to Land’s End in just eight days to raise money for the Bristol Children’s Hospital and Hannah More Infant School in Nailsea.

Andrew has chosen the hospital as his seven-year-old son Elliot suffers from Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome - a heart condition which can cause rapid heart rates - and goes there for regular check-ups.

Andrew, of Porlock Gardens, said: “He has to take medicine three times a day. He’s fine, but I thought it was a good cause because the staff at the hospital are absolutely fantastic.”

Half of the money will also be donated to Hannah More School which Elliot attends along with his five-year-old sister Amelia.

Andrew said: “I’ve never done anything like it before so I’m a bit apprehensive. We are hoping to do it in eight days so we will be cycling about 100 miles each day and be staying in youth hostels.”
