THOUSANDS of pounds will be spent on encouraging people to use Clevedon’s cycle paths and footpaths.

The 15,000, approved by North Somerset Council, will be used to improve the signs along many dual-use paths in the town.

Transition Clevedon, which aims to make the town become less dependant on outside resources such as food and fuel, has been pressing for the move after member Eric Holdsworth photographed many of the areas he felt could be improved.

Mr Holdsworth, a former teacher at Clevedon School, says a map detailing the routes will also be given to town households and some drop kerbs will be installed.

He hopes the work can be done and the map produced by the end of the year.
