A NAILSEA postwoman has been spared jail after being caught with hundreds of stolen parcels.

Dawn Guy appeared at Bristol Crown Court on Monday to be sentenced after police found packets, letters and cards containing money, cheques, vouchers and gifts at her home after they had been stolen from Nailsea sorting office.

They also discovered 2,075 in bank notes, shop gift cards, empty earring boxes and hundreds of unopened packages.

As a result, Guy was charged with one count of stealing an unknown quantity of mail between July 1 and October 13, another of stealing 92 postal packets between October 12 and 22 and a final charge of being a postal operator in breach of duty and delaying the delivery of 205 items between October 15 and 22.

At Bristol Crown Court, the 27-year-old of Cherry Road was sentenced to six months in prison suspended for a year and was given a 12-month supervision order.

Guy was caught out after Royal Mail managers became suspicious abut an unusual amount of parcels containing cash being reported as undelivered.

Two fake packages were planted in Guy’s pigeon hole, which should have been identified by Guy as they were not for her delivery area, and she was later spotted entering her previous home in Birdcombe Close with a parcel.
