Two men have been charged after a break-in at a Clevedon supermarket.
Cigarettes were stolen in the early hours of Thursday morning after thieves smashed their way into Co-operative’s store in Old Street.
Lee Tucker, aged 38, and Ashley Miles, aged 18, were arrested by police within 48 hours.
The men, of Silverhill Road in Bristol, were both charged with aggravated vehicle taking and burglary. Tucker was also charged with driving while disqualified and using a vehicle without insurance. They will appear before Bristol Crown Court next month.
Police were called to the shop at about 3.15am on Thursday.
The shopfront was smashed and police said a ‘quantity of cigarettes’ had been stolen.
Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s spokesman said the thieves used a car make their getaway.
Thursday’s raid was the latest in a long line of similar attacks, with shops in Clevedon, Congresbury and Yatton targeted in recent months. It is not known if they are in anyway connected with the theft from the Co-operative.
