A Clevedon couple are jetting off to Brazil next month to take part in the biggest carnival in the world with their band, Batala Bristol.

Dave Kirikmaa, aged 44, and Anna Richards, aged 31, have been playing Batala, a distinctive form of African-inspired carnival drumming, with the Bristol band for four years and will now head to Salvador de Bahia to take part in a massive carnival.

Dave, who lives in Kelting Grove, said: “We are very excited as we have both been out to Salvador before so to be playing in the biggest carnival in the world is crazy.

“We love the fact that you can travel the world and hook up with other Batala bands. In the past four years we have met so many great people and made friends for life.”

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the carnival of Salvador de Bahia is the biggest street party on the planet with more than four million people celebrating throughout the city over the course of one week.
