Gardeners defied the dreadful weather conditions of late to enter excellent exhibits in a well-attended spring show at the weekend.

Congresbury Gardening Club held its spring flower show at the Old School Rooms on Saturday.

The snow and freezing temperatures from the snowfall in recent weeks proved no match for Congresbury’s green-fingered villagers.

The show’s big winners were Judy Brook and Denise Smith, who claimed two cups each – and Pat Jarvis walked away with the coveted Daffodil Cup.

Chloe Chetland was the star of the children’s categories, winning a pair of prizes.

Show secretary and club chairman Lyn Bacon said: “It went really well.

“We had loads more entries than expected considering the weather.

“The number of children’s entries was up too.

“I’m really pleased, it was a big surprise.
