Families in a North Somerset village turned out in force to celebrate the work and life of a revered Scottish poet at a celebration.

A Burns’ Night party was organised by the Congresbury Scout and Guide group and it was attended by more than 90 people.

The evening began in a traditional manner with a glass of fine Scotch whisky being enjoyed, while the haggis was then piped into the scout hut, in Mill Leg, to the rousing sound of bagpipes.

Guests then sat down to enjoy their Scottish supper, before rounding off the evening with some Highland dancing.

Burns’ Night celebrates the life of Scottish poet Robbie Burns, and parties to remember him by are usually held close to his birthday on January 25.
