Detailed plans for new homes near a Congresbury garden centre have failed to impress.

Congresbury Parish Council’s planning committee wants changes to be made to Freemantle Developments’ plan for 21 homes off the A370 and near to Cadbury, a Wyevale Garden Centre.

An outline planning application for the development has already been accepted by North Somerset Council, but before construction work is allowed to begin, Freemantle has to present acceptable plans showing the site’s layout, landscaping and more.

Only two homes are marked as affordable, which is below the normal required proportion set by North Somerset.

The parish council flagged that as a point of concern while reiterating safety fears about people – especially schoolchildren – having to cross the busy A370.

It also said motorists will have issues getting in and out of the estate near Tesco Express.

It also has called for more two-bedroom houses to help first-time buyers.
