Community volunteer receives gift after 14 years’ service

A fond farewell was given to a selfless volunteer who has helped hundreds of people get to events for more than a decade.

Congresbury Community Transport Directors, past and present gathered to surprise Mike Rendu on one of his regular Tuesday shopping trips.

They presented him with an engraved Bristol Blue Glass paperweight in recognition and appreciation for the many years he has given to Bluey – the charitable minibus service which provides shopping trips for villagers and helps many people maintain their independence.

A spokesman for the transport group said: “Mike spent 14 years on the committee, 11 years of which he was booking secretary and many years driving to various parts of the country.

“Whenever there was a driver needed, Mike was there.”
