VOLUNTEERS pulled out all the stops to celebrate the first anniversary of Portbury Community Caf.

Balloons and birthday cup cakes, complete with candles, were part of the Saturday morning caf set up at Portbury Village Hall to provide a monthly meeting place for residents.

A spokesman for the caf said: “One year on the cafe has gone from strength to strength and is a busy occasion for the whole village.”

The caf is held on the first Saturday of each month between 10am and noon and as well as refreshments the hall is filled with stalls offering locally- produced goods, soap, candles, jams, preserves and honey, alongside cards and photographs. The stalls raise money for the village hall and other community projects and in the first year, the bacon bap stall has raised more than 500 for Crohns in Childhood Research Association (CICRA).
