A member of a Portishead amateur dramatic group has received an award for his role in a show.

Colin Astley, of Portishead Players, was presented with the Barbara Graham Best Performance Trophy, which honours the
top am-dram performance in North Somerset each year.

Colin was praised for his portrayal of Edward Sykes in the The Firework Factory in 2018.

The play, directed by his wife Janet and Ben Slater, focuses on an explosion at a Huddersfield fireworks factory in the 1950s – and was well received.

The script was an original creation which paid tribute to Colin’s father, who ran fireworks factories for many years.

Colin was presented with the prize by Mike Graham, who created the prize in 2016 to honour his wife Barbara who was a prominent amateur dramatist and a patron of Clevedon Players.
