A NAILSEA coffee shop fears more independent traders will close in the town due a supermarket’s latest offers.

Danny Chu, from Gilly’s Café in High Street, has written to Waitrose to complain about its intention to offer a free hot drink to customers who use their loyalty card.

Mr Chu said: “Small independent cafes are unhappy and part-time jobs in these places are now at risk.”

Waitrose defended its action by stating the company would never set out to compete with independent businesses but the store wanted to reward loyal customers.
