A village cricket club has received a £50,000 grant from Sport England to give its facilities a significant update.

Claverham Cricket Club, in Henley Lane, unveiled the improvements following months of renovation.

The club’s ground has a new entrance, while the machinery store and umpires room have been upgraded and a community room has been built.

Disabled facilities have also been installed and the ladies’ toilets have also been improved.

Club secretary Peter Gendle said: “It has been a lot of hard work, but without this vital money we would not have been able to do any of this – funding for cricket clubs is not that great these days.

“With these new facilities we can look at using the club as more of a community facility, which is desperately needed in the village.”
