Clifton Suspension Bridge will be closed to drivers and cyclists this weekend.

Preparation work ahead of the construction of replacement toll houses will be carried out from 8am tomorrow (Saturday) to 6pm on Sunday.

Old toll houses were demolished last month and work will focus on the installation of main carriageway drainage.

A diversion route will be signed using Bridge Valley Road, Brunel Way and A369 Rownham Hill, and the bridge will remain open to pedestrians.

The original Victorian toll houses on the Leigh Woods approach will be retained and refurbished.

Bridge master, Trish Johnson, is hopeful disruption to motorists will be minimal.

She said: “It is intended this is the last full weekend closure required for this project.

“Necessary excavations in the carriageway for services means the bridge cannot be crossed by any vehicles.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause.”
