A Clevedon woman says performing in front of a panel of pop and TV stars has reignited her passion for singing after narrowly missing out on a place in the final of a national competition.
Lisa Radnedge, aged 30, entered the Mecca Star competition last year by sending through videos of herself.
She was picked out of hundreds of applicants from across the country as one of the final 10, so headed to London to take part in the next round which involved performing in front of judges including Pop Idol winner Gareth Gates, actress Claire King and reality TV star Charlotte Dawson.
The 10 contestants were then whittled down to a final five with the winner potentially earning £2,500 as well as a slot on The X Factor live tour.
Although she didn’t make it to the final, Lisa says the experience has had such an effect on her that it has reignited her passion for singing and inspired her to help others.
Lisa, who has two daughters aged six and eight, said: “I was very fortunate to get that far. It was a great experience.
“I worked on my vocals to prepare for the big day with the help of my singing coach.
“It was only the past year and a half I searched for a singing teacher to help with stage fright.
“My mum has said I have been singing since I was able to talk, but I never went anywhere with it as I did not have confidence in myself and also had stage fright.
“Obviously I was emotional on the day that I never got through, as anyone would when you have such a passion for singing, and you want to sing and write songs that touch people’s hearts and comfort them.
“Whether my time was in my younger days or now, I just want to let others know to follow your dreams, work on the things you feel you need help with.
“I’m not sure where it could possibly go from here but hopefully I have Clevedon and the surrounding area’s support.
“Hopefully later I can help someone out and give them the best support and encouragement I received from good-hearted people around me.”
Lisa has also applied for Britain’s Got Talent which held auditions in Clevedon in October.
Lisa will also feature in a series of short online webisodes which will be released throughout January on the Mecca Youtube website.
