A Clevedon woman is celebrating her 108th birthday today (Wednesday).

Evelyn Brooks, known to friends and family by her middle name Doris, was born on February 8, 1909.

She spent most of her life in the town living at Hillside Cottage in Old Church Road, working as a housekeeper. She also spent eight years employed by a family in London.

Although she never had children of her own, Evelyn was married to Frederick John Brooks – also from Clevedon – in 1936 when she was aged 26.

He served in the Somerset Light Infantry during World War Two and was also posted in Athens.

She now lives at Arrigadeen Nursing Home in Cambridge Road where she celebrated her landmark day with family.
