A Women’s Institute (WI) group has celebrated its 40th birthday.

More than 30 members of Clevedon WI attended a birthday lunch to mark the occasion including four founding members.

Established in 1977, the group hosts regular trips, activities and talks for members.

It will visit The Royal Mint in Wales next month.

The group meets at 2pm on the third Tuesday of the month at St Peter’s Church Hall in Alexandra Road.

The WI was formed in 1915 to support rural communities and help women become involved in producing food during World War One, but has now become the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the country.

It provides women with educational opportunities and the chance to learn new skills in areas including cookery, sports, gardening and crafts.

For more information on Clevedon WI, call president Elsie Warren on 01275 877263.
