The smell of mulled wine, roasted chestnuts and delicious mince pies coaxed people out of their homes on Thursday when one of the biggest events in the town’s festive diary arrived.

Shop owners in Hill Road opened their doors after hours for the late night shopping event.

The cider was flowing and hampers were up for grabs as some charity stalls were set up in the shopping hotspot.

Santa was also doing the rounds catching up with young boys and girls to find out what gifts they would like to see under their Christmas trees.

Police officers and firefighters from the local station took along their engines and cars to enable people try on their kit and hop inside.
