Doctors are urging parents to think about the best place to go if their children need urgent medical help in the half-term.

Clevedon’s minor injury unit (MIU), in Old Street, is open during the holidays and offers treatment and advice to patients.

Pharmacists can help with minor ailments as well as guidance on managing long-term conditions.

Helen Stevens, nurse manager at the MIU, said: “Half-term is a time for children to have fun, but sometimes this can lead to injury and if this does happen our emergency nurse practitioners are on hand to provide the highest possible quality of care to ensure this does not spoil their break from school.

“We treated more than 15,000 people at the MIU in the past 12 months and our waiting times are almost always shorter than at A&E.

“We also have free on-site parking for patients.”

The MIU will be open daily from 8am-8.30pm.

Weston General Hospital’s A&E remains closed overnight.
