Some 100 Clevedon children read a book a day for a reading challenge.

Pupils at Mary Elton Primary School thrived in a challenge set by the school to read every day over the summer.

Now more than 100 of them have been rewarded by the school with a celebratory tea party with a large amount of cake and squash.

Teacher Rachael Ten Broeke said: “They all did amazing. This year’s challenge is just the beginning as we are aiming to have even more children at the next party.”

Mary Elton – which is part of the expanding Clevedon Learning Trust – have previously held a sponsored read to raise hundreds of pounds to fill the school library with books.

Schools can win books for their pupils by supporting our Books For Schools campaign.

The Times launched the appeal in October last year and is giving out 100 books to a school each month.
