Cinema £200k short of reaching its roof appeal target

Clevedon's community cinema is clubbing together to raise money to fix its leaky roof over the festive period.
The Curzon, in Old Church Road, is £200,000 short of its £600,000 fundraising target.
A joint venture this Christmas between Discover Clevedon and local illustrator and graphic designer, Emily Moran, has resulted in the production of eco-friendly cards with a twist.
The cards feature a snow-covered Clevedon with the iconic Curzon building in the foreground and a percentage of all card sales will be donated towards the Curzon's fundraising appeal.
Chief executive of the Curzon, Susannah Shaw, is delighted with the cards and the community's efforts.
She said: "We are so grateful to Emily and the Discover Clevedon team for coming up with such a creative idea to support the Curzon's roof appeal. It's a great image that really gets across a sense of community spirit in our town centre.
"The packs are selling fast and are obviously a popular choice for this year's Christmas card.
"Thank you to everyone who has helped our appeal in anyway."
Other donations have come from retirement village, The Hawthorns, whose residents donated £2,500 to the appeal, while a trailer played before every film at the cinema is in the running for a charity film award.
Aardman Animations allowed the cinema to use a rainy scene from the Wallace and Gromit film, The Wrong Trousers, to promote the roof appeal.
The adaptation was created for free, thanks to Aardman's generosity and the voice-over work of Clevedon's Howard Coggins.
The trailer aims to encourage audiences to give generously in the bucket collection at the end of each film, which are held by volunteers wearing sou'wester hats like Gromit.
The cinema's fundraising campaign manager, Karen Edgington, said: "Our leaky roof has caused significant damage to the building.
"Despite repairs over the years, the situation has become serious, but we wanted a film which was memorable and would bring a smile to people's faces just like the Curzon has done for many years.
"The trailer has also been hugely popular on YouTube and shared widely, which is great."
