The swimming pool at Clevedon’s Strode Leisure Centre has been closed today (Thursday) following an electrical fault, but Waitrose in Nailsea has reopened after problems this morning.

John Baker, general manager at the leisure centre, told the Times: “Strode Leisure Centre had some power surges this morning for whatever reason, either the weather or problems with the grid.

“It has left some of the pool lighting out and it means currently it is closed.”

Engineers have been called to try to fix the problem.

Mr Baker said he hopes the pool will reopen later today.

The power surges have caused problems across the region with dozens of homes losing power.

Waitrose in Nailsea was closed from 10am-12.30pm, but is now open as normal.
