Clevedon play pod to go

A PLAY facility near Clevedon’s seafront will be taken away from March.

The play pod on Salthouse Fields, which is full of sports and circus skills equipment, den building materials, and arts and craft materials, will be removed due to the fact there is no more funding available for it.

Last month, it was revealed that money from the Big Lottery Fund for the play pod scheme would run out in March and that North Somerset Council would not fund its continuation.

As a result, the town and parish councils covering the areas with play pods were asked to consider taking on the funding themselves.

However, at a meeting of Clevedon Town Council’s town events and amenities committee it was decided that the town council would not be willing to pay for the pod to remain on Salthouse Fields.

Members felt the extra expense could not be justified.

Play pods were first introduced in North Somerset in June 2008 and are opened up by play rangers twice a week who then coordinate activities using the equipment.
