A COLOURFUL super hero has arrived in Clevedon in the form of a new comic.

Captain Clevedon, the Avon Avenger, has been created by comic writer and artist Kev F Sutherland.

The 49-year-old of Leigh Grove Road has been writing and drawing comics for more than 20 years, with his work featuring in numerous editions of The Beano, Dr Who Adventures, Match and various Marvel comics.

He penned the first edition of Captain Clevedon in 1994 and it has now been revived into what will be a regular comic for the town.

The latest edition features a new story, called And Pigs Might Fly, in which Captain Clevedon, a teenage boy who discovers he has super powers, has to fight a giant space pig, as well as the original edition produced in 1994.

The story is written solely by Kev but the comic also features work from some guest artists.

Kev is already working on the second edition, entitled Terror of Tyntesfield, for which he has already visited the Wraxall estate to take background photos.

Kev said: “There has been great interest in this first one and it has a good following on Facebook too.

“Drawing comics is what I have always done.

“After visiting school pupils in Clevedon I decided to revive Captain Clevedon.”

As well as drawing and writing comics, Kev visit schools across England holding comic-drawing master classes. He is also a caricature artist as well as a comedy writer and performer with the Scottich Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre.

Captain Clevedon is on sale for 1.99 at Clevedon Pier as well as Splash Gallery, Paper Planet and the Curzon cinema in Old Church Road, That Copy Shop and Alexandra News in Alexandra Road and Seeleys newsagent in Hill Road.
