A Clevedon Christmas fair experienced its ‘best ever year’ after thousands of pounds was raised.

The Friary fair saw more than 14 stalls open for business to sell Christmas gifts, cakes, wool hats and more to raise money for the Parish Restoration Fund.

The event, which took place in Princes Hall, raised £3,280 with more than 230 people attending.

Co-ordinator Paul Stathers believes the entertainment was a real hit.

He said: “It was our best year ever and we had a brilliant performance by the Portishead concert band.

“I am very happy with how it went.

“The money will go back to restoring our Friary which is very old and in constant need of repair.”

To raise more money, the fair on November 17 saw three big prizes given away.

They were a meal for two at the Il Giardino restaurant, in The Beach, a pair of tickets to a New Year’s Eve party at Clevedon Hall and some treats from Murrays in Hill Road.
