Clevedon District Foodbank volunteers have revealed more than 4,000kg of donations were given during the harvest period.

The foodbank, based in Knowles Road, received donations weighing £4,339 – the equivalent of two rhinos or 30 reindeer – which will be used to make the charity’s Christmas hampers.

Volunteers will also be at Waitrose in Nailsea and Sainsbury’s in Portishead on December 1 to collect more donations for the hampers.

A spokesman said: “If these days aren’t convenient, anyone who wants to be a part of this can give through our regular collection sites in these two stores, or in Tesco in Clevedon or the Co-op in Yatton.

“We’re so grateful to everyone who contributes to our work supporting local people.

“You have no idea the difference it makes, now and all year round.”

Items still needed include biscuits, ham, salmon, trifle kits and tinned fruit.
