A £10million care home is set to open in Clevedon by the end of summer.

The creation of Poets Mews, in Cherry Avenue, is almost complete after an 18-month development.

Avery Healthcare secured planning permission from North Somerset Council to build a three-storey complex at the former Cherry Orchard Care Home site.

It will consist of 80 bedrooms and will come complete with 28 car parking spaces, a communal garden and a sensory dementia garden.

Avery owns and operates more than 50 care homes nationwide, including an independent living brand which runs The Hawthorns in Elton Road.

An Avery Healthcare spokesman said: "People staying at the home can expect a bit of everything.

"They will get high-quality personal care from a highly-trained professional staff team and the latest in care for those living with dementia, based on up-to-date research and practices.

"There will be quality dining and free refreshments throughout the day in the all-day café and a sector-leading wellbeing programme and a daily calendar of events and activities for all."

Residents will be treated to day trips to places of interest and can explore the home which comes complete with landscaped gardens with a potting shed and raised beds, a cinema and a hair salon and barbers on site.

Avery Healthcare has made sure to utilise local traders and suppliers where possible to support the local economy.

Poets Mews, which started construction last year, will create 75 full-time and part-time jobs.

The spokesman added: "The staff will be new and will boost the jobs market in the area.

"We want Poets Mews to be recognised for the very best for care and resident services in North Somerset."

Avery Healthcare had previously received support for a 72-bedroom care home but it expanded its proposals.

When seeking planning permission, its design and access statement said: "Following a successful application for a 72-bed care home on the site [in 2015] the developer has progressed the proposals to tender and has been in discussions with various contractors looking to build the development.

"Support for the care home has grown and demand for the facility has increased."
