MOVIE buffs will have the opportunity to see their favourite films as part of a senior citizen cinema extravaganza.
From March 9 North Somerset residents, aged over 60, will have the opportunity to enjoy afternoon screenings, complete with an introduction, at The Curzon Community Cinema in Clevedon.
From musical master pieces and comedy classics to historical tales and thrillers, seniors living in NSHousing, at The Hawthorns retirement complex, and many others from across the district, were asked to suggest their favourite flicks they would like to see on the big screen.
Five different film screening events will take place at the Old Church Road venue which opened in 1912, and viewers will also have the chance to discuss the film afterwards.
The project is funded by Quartet Community Foundation and Age UK and NSHousing helped set up consultation groups and distributed questionnaires.
Education and learning coordinator, Cathy Poole, said: “It has been fantastic talking to people who would like to participate in the programme.
“They have shared with us their film favourites and have raised some important issues about their visit to the cinema which we have been able to address.
“While many of those consulted want to see contemporary films, classics gained a large number of votes.”
Thanks to grants the screening and refreshments cost £3 per head, but advanced booking is recommended.
The first film, The Remains of the Day, will be shown at 2pm on March 9 and stars Anthony Hopkins, who plays a butler.
The 1936 musical comedy, A Night at the Opera, will be screened at 2pm on April 4.
Age UK is offering a free ticket to one of the film screenings to the first 50 people to send in the answers to the following questions: When did the Curzon first open? Which actor plays the butler in The Remains of the Day? What is the best film you have seen in a cinema?
Send answers with your full name and address to: Senior Screenings, Curzon Community Cinema, 46-48 Old Church Road, Clevedon, North Somerset, BS21 6NN.
