THE sound of bells could be recently heard by residents in one area of Clevedon after more than a year of silence from their nearby church.
Christchurch in Chapel Hill was closed in 2011 to allow a major, £1.3million refurbishment of the building and the adjoining community space to take place. It was reopened in November.
Before the closure, a recording of bells on cassette tape had been played through loudspeakers in the tower. However, the tape was old and stretched and eventually lost.
Now, a new recording of the six bells at St Michael and All Angels church in Angersleigh has been sourced from the Bath and Wells Diocesan Association of Change Ringers and was played out at Christchurch on Easter Sunday.
