HUNDREDS of shoppers flocked to Somerset Square on Friday to watch the Christmas lights being turned on.
Crowds gathered around the 30ft Christmas tree as BBC weather presenter Jemma Cooper flicked the switch and ushered the festive spirit into the town.
The Salvation Army band played seasonal favourites and Waitrose and the Blue Room offered free mince pies and mulled wine to spectators.
Face painters and street performers, including a roller-skating robin and a stilt-walking fairy - kept children entertained during the event.
