Champion jockey donates auction prize

PORTISHEAD Christmas lights committee has received the support of former Grand National winner Bob Champion.

At a chance meeting of committee member Dave Hotchkiss with the jockey, who defied cancer to win the world’s greatest steeplechase, Bob was only too happy to provide a signed photo to help raise money for the town’s festive illuminations.

The photo will be auctioned at the organisation’s fundraising race night, which takes place at 8pm at Portishead Workingmen’s Club on November 19.

Tickets for the event are available from Mad Harry’s and Morgan Westley in High Street or from the Workingmen’s Clubs at a cost of £4 which includes a buffet supper.

Bids for the photo can also be sent in writing ahead of the race night to Portishead Workingmen’s Club, Slade Road, Portishead BS20 6BW.
