MORE than 20 family members gathered to mark the 100th birthday of Edna Young.
Celebrations were held at Haven Lodge in Portishead, where Edna now lives, with a special cake made by the staff at the home. The centenarian was surrounded by her three children, Ann Thomas and John and Michael Young, as well as some of her nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great, great-grandchildren on April 22. Edna was born in Westbury-on-Trym, where she later married her late husband Jack Young. She moved to Portishead 15 months ago after suffering a stroke.
During her life she worked in the school meals service and enjoyed hobbies including old time dancing, gardening and quizzes. Her daughter Ann, who lives in Portishead’s Village Quarter, said: “The staff at Haven Lodge are kindness itself. They put on a great party and made a beautiful cake.”
