VILLAGERS in Pill held a tasting event to celebrate being rewarded Fairtrade status.
On October 2, the shopping precinct at Baltic Place was filled with stalls selling Fairtrade goods and also promoting the work of the groups that use them.
Pill was awarded Fairtrade Village Status in January and this month’s event was held to highlight the work of those people and organisations taking part.
It took two years of hard work to gain the status.
The steering group had to show that a certain proportion of community groups use Fairtrade products, such as tea and coffee, during their meetings, that a certain number of shops sell Fairtrade goods and that publicity has been given to the Fairtrade campaign.
Support from Easton-in-Gordano Parish Council and North Somerset Council also helped in the application, which was made in December.
