PORTISHEAD'S royal family is now complete following the crowning of the carnival queen at Clarence House on Friday.

Weston College student Hannah Osment, aged 18, fought off stiff competition to be crowned the town’s queen for 2011.

Hannah has lived in Portishead all her life and has been a part of the carnival since she was two years old.

The keen horse rider said: “My family has entered a float in Portishead carnival for around 30 years. I don’t know what they will say when I explain I won’t be on it this year, but I’m sure they’ll be pleased when they hear why.”

The carnival queen contest is sponsored by the Times, which will present Hannah with Mall vouchers to the value of £50. She will also be treated to hair styling by the Robert John Group on carnival day and will receive flowers from Season’s Florist.

Contest organiser Debbie Charman said: “Hannah will make a great carnival queen, her family are great supporters of Portishead carnival and I’m sure they will support her in her role. I would also like to thank all the businesses that support the Portishead royal family.”

Hannah will be joined by carnival princess Lena Perkins and flower princess Ellen Bowers, to lead the town’s procession through the streets on June 18.
