A WOMAN had to be pulled from her car by emergency services after crashing off a road near Nailsea and landing in a river.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called at 9.15am today (Wed) to deal with the incident, which happened near to the trout farm in Clevedon Road.

It is believed the green Vauxhall Astra estate the woman was driving left the road and crashed through a wall before ending up in the River Yeo.

This resulted in the woman, believed to be in her 40s being sat waste-deep in water down a steep river bank, causing great difficulty for the crews trying to rescue her.

A crew from Nailsea firestation was able to help the lady on to the bonnet of the car while a fire appliance from Bedminster made its way to the scene with specialist water rescue equipment.

They were able to use an inflatable sled to reach the woman, transfer her on to a spinal board and then on to the sled and back to the river bank.

The driver was treated by paramedics for effects from the cold and for minor neck pains. She was then taken to Weston General Hospital but she is not thought to have suffered serious injuries.
