Cancer charity needs volunteers

A CANCER charity from Pill is appealing for more volunteers to help support people suffering from the disease.

Penny Brohn Cancer Care is looking for more people to help out at their centre in Chapel Pill Lane.

The charity needs people to man the helpline, carry out maintenance work and gardening as well as volunteer musicians to play for residents.

Sarah Gottesman, volunteer coordinator at Penny Brohn Cancer Care, said: “At Penny Brohn Cancer Care we work with over 2,000 people and their families every year, helping to improve their quality of life. And we couldn’t do it without all the wonderful people that give us their time, toil and enthusiasm for free.

“All of our services are now free, so our message is simple really - the more volunteers we have, the more people we can help.”

Organisers are looking for people to plant a herb garden and good listeners to work on the charity’s helpline. Full training is provided.

There are also opportunities for volunteers to help out in the centre’s shop, to carry out admin work or to drive residents to and from appointments.
