A NEW campaign is urging North Somerset’s ‘local heroes’ to come forward and care for vulnerable teenagers.

New figures have revealed that North Somerset Council urgently needs at least 15 new foster carers to take in older children in the region, with a staggering 10,000 needed country-wide.

The campaign will feature several of the area’s own ‘local heroes’ who have fostered children, to try and encourage new carers to come forward.

Lynn and Rob Flynn from Worle, who have been fostering for over 19 years, are featured in the campaign.

Mr Flynn said: “Looking after teenagers keeps us young. We’re always learning new things and it’s a privilege to help them achieve things they never thought possible, such as their first job.”

Kimberleigh, aged 18, who has lived with the Flynns for six years added: “They have changed my life. It is the best thing that ever happened to me.”
