A vets practice will be appearing on television screens tomorrow (Monday).

Watkins & Tasker Vets has welcomed BBC film crews to its Portishead surgery in recent weeks for the second series of The Pets Factor.

Hosted by Stacey Dooley, the CBBC show features just four veterinary practices selected from around the UK and the Portishead one was the only South West vets selected.

Steve Tasker, joint owner of the practice, said: “It was important for us to be involved in this project as we very much have a family ethos.

“If we can help to teach children to be responsible pet owners and perhaps inspire the next generation of vets then I believe this is an essential part of the work we do.

“Added to that, it has been great fun, really exciting and quite eye-opening as to what is involved in the production of a television series.”

Filming for the first two series of 10 programmes started in January and focused on vet James Greenwood and the patients he cares for.

The second series sees a wide range of animals make come through the vets practice’s doors.

Among the patients are Ziggy the ‘singing’ lurcher, a champion-winning agility dog called Pixie and two piglets named Belle and Monty, which are owned by the practice’s veterinary nurse assistant, Fran.

The first series was so well received that television production company, TrueNorth TV has already been recommissioned to make a further 20 episodes and filming is already taking place at Watkins & Tasker Vets.

The first episode of the second series will be broadcast tomorrow on the CBBC Channel at 4pm.

The rest of the series will air at the same time every night for two weeks.

James believes there will be a lot of local interest in the show.

He said: “I am sure there will be a lot of children and their pets watching and then maybe their pet will get the chance to be in future series.”

James said it has been a fantastic experience to be involved with The Pets Factor.

He said: “It has been great to be part of it and I will be doing some exciting live television, including the Saturday Mash Up.

“I hope gunge comes out of scrub tops.”
